This little booger is a Diamondback Terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin tequesta) that was found in my front yard area being stalked by our lovely neighborhood cat. He (it) was about 5 inches long. The largest little terrapin I’ve found. Usually I see them one of two ways, big or really small. This one was just big enough to latch on to a three year olds finger and hang there. It was great, in a twisted, screaming kid, funny later, kind of way.
Terrapins aren’t protected in Florida but they probably will be soon.
